Dare we say we saved the best for last with the final full moon of the year in Cancer? The Cancerian crab with its hard shell and soft center crawls in to wrap up 2023 with introspection and reflection. Not to mention navigating the wonky, wild energy of our final round of Mercury retrograde, which kicked off on Dec. 13 and will usher us into 2024, ending on the first day of the New Year.

If there is ever a time to quiet down and listen, it is now. Cancer is ruled by the moon, so expect the intensity to surge when this full moon illuminates the night sky. It follows the Gemini full moon, which is all about lip service and honoring the way you communicate with others and yourself. Then we welcomed the Sagittarius new moon, which turned on the lightbulb within us to acquire new knowledge and seek to understand things about the world around us at a deeper level.

Cancer is watery. Its energy helps us to swim deep in deceptions and illusions so we can come up for air with more clarity about the things we need personally, and the boundaries that will help protect us as we grow and discover new parts of ourselves. Trust that not everyone in your life will understand this level up. But it still needs to take place. Now, it's up to you whether you want this personal evolution to happen out in the open for everyone to see, or if small hidden steps need to be taken first before debuting the new you in the New Year.

When Is the Full Moon in Cancer?

The Cancer Full Moon will peak on Dec. 26 at 7:33 pm ET. It will likely be big and bright in the sky the night before and after its peak. So, go with the flow of Cancer, and listen to your intuition to find the right time to work with our beautiful lunar companion.

What Does the 2023 Full Moon in Cancer Mean?

The fourth zodiac sign permits us to lean into our natural motherly nurturing nature. While opening up your heart to allow for emotion to flow uninterrupted, it's important to consider three areas where this motherly love can flow — the self, the home, and society.

Cancerian energy often seeks out the negative as a starting point to find a positive solution. Cancers are great at creating new possibilities within things that seemed impossible. But air on the side of caution when excessive worry or overprotectiveness tries to take hold. It's like Cancer to hide in the shadows of the moon until the time is right to come into its cozy, yet mysterious light.

Cancer is a cardinal sign, meaning it kicks off the start of a new season with the Dec. 21 winter solstice just days before the full moon's peak. Therefore, this full moon is also known as the Cold Full Moon, given the season for which it lives.

Now is a time to shed insecurities, anxieties, and the disharmonies of the past and walk into the New Year with a clean slate of endless possibilities. Fill your cup up with joy and then open up your home to share it with others. Nurture your tender heart while embracing those you love most, and even people you don't know. Spiritual-Cleansing Limpia Recipe For the Full Moon in Cancer

Ingredients:

Sea salt

Sweetgrass or sage

Palo Santo

Florida Water

Rose quartz, carnelian, and citrine crystals

Lemon balm, parsley, and chamomile herbs

Eucalyptus, Frankincense, and cinnamon essential oils

White roses

White candle

Ritual:

1. Begin by physically cleaning your space before spiritually cleansing it by burning sweetgrass or sage followed by palo santo. Allow the smoke to waft around your space as you thank it for its cleansing properties and the shift of energy in your space.

2. Now that your place is smelling delicious and feeling recharged, bring a big pot of water to a gentle boil and add 2-to-3 handfuls of the herbs you'd like to use. Lower to simmer for 10-to-15 minutes, and add one cup of sea salt to dissolve.

3. As your herbs are simmering, you can create your Cancer Full Moon altar. Intuitively find a spot to place the altar. This could be in your bathroom where you'll do the limpia, or in a nice cozy spot where you'll journal or rest afterward.

4. Once you've found your spot, place your candle, a vase with some of your white roses, and your crystals. Use your intuition as you place each item. Don't second guess it. Your altar will come out just as it was intended to under the full moon.

5. Light the candle to ignite the energy of your altar. Then remove the herb water from the heat and allow it to cool to your desired temperature.

6. When it's cool, strain the herbs, add several drops of essential oil and a few splashes of Florida Water, and mix it in with your hands. Pray and sing and set intentions as you do this.

7. Carry your limpia water to the shower or wherever you intend to pour it over yourself.

8. Say a prayer as you gently pour the water over your body, shedding what is no longer needed and creating space for healing and new things to come.

9. Watch as the water flows over your body and down the drain, carrying with it everything you need to let go of.

10. Emerge cleansed and recharged, knowing that everything exists in the present moment, and we can create magic with each passing second.
